Give me FOUR MORE SHOTS PLEASE is a phenomenal TV show, set in Mumbai, follows 4 girls in 4 different situations who come together through the sweet pleasure of drinking. You could say, an Indian version of Sex in the City. This show takes a more diverse, non-traditional viewpoint of females in Mumbai.
From a Western perspective, we see in the media, how vulnerable Indian women are and how they are treated with an historic point of view on how women should be (i.e. a housewife). Just like the true women of South Asia who are fighting back for their voice and equality, this show is embracing and capturing women in Mumbai who are not engulfed in that traditional female stereotypes. Each character owns their differences together as a group whilst facing their issues head-on individually.
I find the editing and style of the TV show to be a mixture of South Asian and Western TV shows. On a stereotypical South Asian show, we see epileptic zoom-ins of their facial expressions for half of the show, and every episode is left on a cliff-hanger. Whereas Western TV shows drag their storylines throughout the season until the very last episode.
This show has the same plot line as a typical Indian TV show and presents appropriate culture stereotypes, but it adopts the charm of a Western TV show. It has less facial expressions and more depth in the characters by understanding their story.
Give Me Four More Shots presents themes such as sexuality, love, family and religion in a new manner and marks a new way of celebrating women.
